Changes and additions to MinonkTalk

I am sure you have noticed that the homepage for MinonkTalk has changed. The biggest change you will notice is the links to the other sections of the website. The menu for showing the links is now a horizontal drop down menu at the top of the homepage. It may take some time to get familar with locating the desired link but I think you soon will find it easier to navigate the website with the new menu format. Eventually, most of the other web pages on MinonkTalk will have a similar link menu.

You will also notice that there are two new logos at the top right of the homepage. The logo to the left is for Verizon and is an ad for their new DSL service in Minonk for accessing the internet. DSL is about 6 times faster than dialup and is worth considering if you want faster internet speed. The reason for listing the logo is that if you click on the logo and go to the Verizon website and sign up for DSL service, the MinonkTalk website will receive $35 from Verizon for leading a new customer their way. So if you want to make a donation to this website without having to spend any of your own money, this is a good way of doing it.

The second logo is for an Ebay link to Minonk stuff. I have been browsing for Minonk memorabilia, postcards, pictures, plates, etc. for 2 years on Ebay and have bought a few things over the internet. Rick Halberg suggested that I put a link to the Ebay site for Minonk stuff so everyone assoicated with Minonk can have an opportunity to buy some Minonk memorabilia. Thanks for the tip, Rick.

The biggest change to the website are new webpages designed to sell Minonk, so to speak, to the rest of the world. This website has offered plenty of history about Minonk. Now it is time to show what Minonk currently is all about and what our community has to offer.

I have always wanted to promote Minonk as a great place to invest and to grow a business but never got around to it because of so many other things on my plate. However, when the Woodford County Economic Development Council awarded me a grant to promote Minonk on this website, the decision to do it became easier to make. The past 2 months have been spent developing new webpages to promote Minonk's business climate and its residential area. I have always maintained that Minonk has the best residential area of any small community within 50 miles of Bloomington.

The webpage promotions include a webpage for economic development which lists the properties that are available for development in Minonk, opportunities for expansion in the Carolyn Development at I-39, and expansion in the industrial park. The entire square mile of Section 6 north of Minonk is available for economic development as is land west and north of the I-39 intersection. Minonk's location on I-39 and its proximity to I-80, I-74 and I-55 makes the community an attractive site for locating warehouses, trucking companies, and other industries in which transporation accessibility is important.

Finally, the webpage that lists individual businesses in Minonk has been expanded. A letter was sent to each business in Minonk, asking them to complete a questionnaire. From this questionnaire, a webpage was developed for the business. So far, about half of the companies have responded. If you have a company that you wish to put on the website, please contact me through my email. I will be willing to take pictures of your business and your employees and include them on a personalized webpage for this website.

In the coming months, I will be expanding this website even more through the introduction of interactive webpages that will allow persons or businesses to update this website or their own webpage through this website without any special technical knowledge. I will continue to strive to make MinonkTalk a better website that can become the standard by which other communities will eventually come to emulate.
