Its time again to tie up some loose ends on this website. I changed the format of this webpage last year to allow viewers to submit their own articles, emails, events, etc. in a format that I thought would be fairly user friendly. This change was made so that I would not have to do so much tweeking and converting of data to a web page format. Some people have embraced these changes. Most, however, still send stuff via email. One of the errors that has occurred is for people to submit their birthdays under the title of Coming Events rather than under the Birthdays title. This creates an incorrect format for the web site and results in a birthday incorrectly updated on the event calendar. If you submit your birthday through the Birthday title on the Webpage Updates screen your birthday will remain on the Event calendar forever. However, if you submit it as an Upcoming Event, your birthday will drop off after the current year. So try to submit your birthday announcements under the Birthday title rather than the Coming Events title. I want to personally thank Carey Naas of the Minonk Public Works Department for fixing the busted water pipes at the Westside Park Pavilion. One of the water pipes behind the ladies restroom wall froze during the winter and burst. What could have turned out to be a costly and time consuming repair job was circumvented by Carey who took matters into his own hands by isolating the leak, removing the blocks from the wall, removing the toilet stool, replaced the broken line, and then put everything back together again. If only all of our citizens were as civic minded and conscientious as Carey.

Last week's spring cleanup and the arrival of spring has Minonk looking bright and cheerful. In the past month I have heard observations from out of town people about how attractive and well preserved our fair city appears to newcomers. The many large, well maintained older homes as well as the new ones along with the quaint Victorian charm of the downtown buildings and the brick streets truly give Minonk a unique character. I urge everyone to continue to take pride in their homes and keep Minonk a great place to live. In spite of the vandalism and the idiots who continually throw garbage on the berm next to the IOOF building, Minonk is still the best looking town around.
