American military might reigns supreme

I am sure that everyone is relieved to see how well the war in Iraq has progressed. Seeing the statue of Saddam Hussein being pulled down in the center of Baghdad was the defining moment of the war. That incident was similar to the Germans climbing the Berlin Wall in 1989 to signify the end of the Cold War. Both events were brought about by the influence of America's military might. In the case of the Berlin wall, the Russians could not keep up with us militarily and the country disintegrated from within. In the case of Iraq, American military might brought down a dictator.

In both cases, our military might was not used to conquer but rather to free an oppressed people. Most Americans are tired of listening to the Jane Fonda's of the world critizing our country for being brutes and war mongers. People in the entertainment industry are so far removed from reality that what they say really doesn't matter. However, I defend their right to criticize because this is a free country and also because it doesn't hurt to have people nipping at the heels of the government just to keep it honest. That is what democracy is all about.

What really gets me is the attitude of our so called allies like France and Russia who were against the war in Iraq. There is good evidence that both countries have been selling arms to Iraq so I guess their attitude against the war in Iraq was not based so much on humanitarian issues as it was on economic issues.

In any case, it really doesn't matter what those countries think about our policies anymore. After watching the war on CNN can anyone in this world not be impressed with our military might and our military planning? I am sure that North Korea may tend to be a little less aggressive towards us after seeing how efficient our military is. France and Germany should no longer be considered allies. They are so jealous of our power that they can't be objective about us anymore. The British and the Aussies remain our only true allies. Even Canada, our wimpy neighbors to the North, have to feel a little sheepish about refusing to participate in a truly astounding accomplishment.

How can anyone not feel moved seeing the tremendous emotions unleashed by the Iraqi people when they realized that the tyranny they have lived under most of their lives has been lifted? Those who have lived free all of their lives have no idea how precious freedom can be. I for one was extremely proud to be an American after seeing how our military was able to remove the crushing grip of a dictator from the people he so long had dominated.

While the purpose of the war was to free the Iraqi people, another very important side effect was achieved in this war. Our army gained invaluable experience in how to fight a new kind of war. Over 90% of our air strikes were precision strikes that enabled us to root out the bad guys without killing innocent civilians. We gained experience in our special forces who operate unknown amongst the enemy to gain valuable intelligence. Even though the Iraqi army was outmanned, outarmed, and had terrible leaders, the kill ratio in the war was still astoundingly lopsided.

There are those who complain that the United States is becoming the policeman of the world. You're darn right we are. With people like Saddam Hussein and those of his ilk who terrorize their own people and threaten the world in general, someone has to rectify these conditions. The United States is the only country that can do this. I don't have a problem with the United States being policeman of the world because I believe that American intentions are always honorable. We are not plunderers or conquerers. The world needs a policeman to ensure stability. Sorry, France.

The rest of the world is fortunate to have us as policeman of the world instead of Nazis or Communists. Our overwhelming military might will make other countries think twice before they try to become a rogue nation. The world now knows that the United States no longer gives idle threats. If we can successfully bring peace and freedom to Iraq, hopefully it will lead to a lasting peace in the rest of the Middle East.

Luckily, we have a president who deals with reality, not an intellectual or idealist dream world. He made the tough decision because in his heart he knew it was right and he had the guts to go ahead with it in spite of world opinion. Bush has paved the way for a new world order where our military will be used pre-emptively to preserve order in the world rather than trying to restore order after it is too late.

Some dangerous fighting still remains and the capture of Saddam Hussein and his sons must be accomplished. Our military has performed admirably and courageously. We salute those who have fought and we honor those who gave their lives. Once again, Americans have proved that they have the right stuff and have done the right thing.
