Gilbert H. "Gib" Thies, 87, of 415 E. Second St., Minonk, passed away at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 23, 2005) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Minonk.

His memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Minonk. The Rev. Craig Swenson will officiate. Inurnment will be in Dana Cemetery, Dana. There will be no visitation. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk, is handling arrangements.

Mr. Thies was born Sept. 10, 1917, at Dana, a son of Henry and Ida Witte Thies. He married N. Jewell Baxter on Nov. 22, 1941, at Toluca. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Lori (Jeff) Bunn, Golden, Colo.; and Kim (Pat) Manning, Minonk; one brother, Robert (Darlene) Thies, Dana; five grandchildren, Billy Bunn, Bobby Bunn and Matthew Bunn of Golden, Colo.; Cassie (Shawn) Modro, Toluca; and Shaun Manning, Minonk.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, three brothers and one sister.

"Gib" was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Minonk. He was an avid golfer and an active member of Tall Oaks Golf Club, Toluca. He belonged to a Target Rifle Shooting Club in the Dana area and was a lifetime grain and hog farmer in rural Dana.
