Donald Dean Miles, 81, of 230 Cedar Lane, Minonk, died at 9:40 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 14, 2005) at OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Minonk. The Rev. Daniel Gansch-Boythe and the Rev. Pamela Gansch-Boythe will officiate. Burial will be in Minonk Twp. Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk, and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at his church. Dean was born in Promise City, Iowa on Aug. 8, 1924, a daughter of John and Vera Kight Miles. He married Carmen L. Bachman on Sept. 19, 1948, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Minonk. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Nancy (Tim) Manning and Peggy Miles, both of Minonk; three sons, Larry (Mary) Miles, Minonk; Donald Miles, Charleston, S.C.; and James (Lois) Miles, Bloomington; one sister, Verna (Ernest) Gerdes, Benson; one brother, Kenneth (Vicki) Miles, Tempe, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandsons; four stepgrandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Dean was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Minonk. He served with the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a lifetime farmer in the Minonk area and was a Pekin Insurance agent for over 35 years. Dean truly enjoyed going to auctions and collecting Minonk memorabilia.
