Lloyd A. Krahling, 86 - July 17, 2005

METAMORA -- Lloyd A. Krahling, 86, of 1200 E. Partridge St., Metamora, formerly of 917 E. Kay St., Morton, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday (July 3, 2005) at Snyder Village Health Center in Metamora.


He was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Benton County, Iowa, to Henry G. and Elizabeth Schuler Krahling. He married Mabel L. Matter on June 20, 1950, in Minonk. She survives.


Also surviving are one sister, Elsie (John) Murriseh, Kelseyville, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Velma Matter, Minonk; and Ella Matter, Streator; and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents; three stepbrothers; and three stepsisters.


He was a 1938 graduate of Atkins High School in Atkins, Iowa.


He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, where he served in Italy.


He worked for Iowa Manufacturing Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for 11 years. He then worked for 35 years at Caterpillar Inc., retiring in 1985.


He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5921, both in Morton, and American Legion Post 142 in Minonk.


He served as a Red Coat volunteer at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, for 17 years.


His service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at his church with the Rev. Brian Pape officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Minonk Township Cemetery in Minonk, where full military services will be conducted. Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton is handling arrangements.
