Helen V. Hakes, 83 - March 27, 2005

DANA -- Helen V. Hakes, 83, of 25418 North 00 Road, Dana, died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (March 24, 2005) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Minonk, where she had been a resident for the past two months.

Her service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona, with the Rev. Ivy Silas of the Dana United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Dana Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Wesley and Kenneth Simpson, Michael Hakes, Dave Seybert, Charles Patient and William Ruestman.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Mrs. Hakes was born in Wenona on Dec. 22, 1921, to John and Ella Stenzel Nadler. She married Harry N. Hakes on Sept. 15, 1956. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, John Hakes of Dana; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Joan) Nadler of Gwinnen, N.D.; and two sisters, Lillian Burroughs of Washington and RoseMarie (Marvin) Ahlstrom of Westfield, Wis.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband June 15, 1980, and one daughter, Janet Flahaven.
