Robert L. Wyss, 90, of Heritage Manor in Minonk, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 29, 2008) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.
He was born on May 16, 1918 in rural Roanoke to Louis and Elsie Meinhold Wyss. Bob married Doris Janssen on June 14, 1945 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Minonk. She survives.
Also surviving are: one son, Gayl (Gail) Wyss of Minonk; one daughter, Arlene Wyss of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Hannah, Will, and Guthrie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob was in the United States Army during World War II when he served in the 36th Engineer Combat Regiment.
He was a member of American Legion Post 142 in Minonk for many years. He also belonged to the Woodford County Farm Bureau.
Bob was a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ for 51 years and served as council member a number of times.
Bob was a farmer from the age of 15 until he could no longer help. He started with his father, Louis, south of Minonk in 1933 and farmed with his son until he was 81. He had an easy laugh and smile, loved movies, loved to travel, talk farming and his family. He had many wonderful friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. The Rev. Daniel Gransch-Boythe will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Minonk Township Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded.
