Richard J. Whitcomb, 59, Villa Park, formerly of Minonk, died Sunday (May 16, 2010) at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Elmhurst.

His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. today at Harvard Avenue Free Church, 206 W. St. Charles Road, Villa Park. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood. Memorials to Harvard Avenue Free Church Food Pantry appreciated.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Amundson Whitcomb; stepson, Tim (Amy) Van Tassel, Schaumburg; brothers, John (Sally) and Joe (Gerri), both of Bloomington; eight nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and –nephews; brothers-in-law, Elven, Kirkwood, Mo.; Everett (Kathleen), California; and Kenneth (Valerie) Amundson, Wheaton; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Frances Whitcomb of Minonk.
