Dorothy L. Watson, 91 - March 30, 2010

Dorothy L. Watson, 91, Minonk, passed away at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday (March 30, 2010) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Minonk, where she was a resident.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk. Dennis Platt will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tonica. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday before the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Minonk Ambulance Squad or Minonk Food Pantry.

She was born Aug. 29, 1918, in Grand Ridge, a daughter of Fred and Sarah Walker Traver. She married William Lawrence “Doodle” Watson on Dec. 16, 1934, in Kentland, Ind. He passed away Nov. 4, 1978.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda (Marvelyn) Schlueter, Cornell, and Evelyn (Tim) Grusy, Minonk; three sons, William (Nancy) Watson, Joplin, Mo.; Donald (Marsha) Watson, Streator; and Daniel (Linda) Watson, Bourbonnais; and several grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, six brothers, two grandchildren and one stepgranddaughter.

Dorothy had worked as a caretaker in the Minonk area. She retired from Manor Health Care in Peru, where she had worked as a nurse’s aide.

She was a member of Rutland Christian Church.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, crocheting, watching TV and spending time with her dog, Missy. She also wrote poems and short stories of happenings in her life.
