BARTONVILLE ~ Winfield W. “Skip” Volk, 63, of Bartonville, passed away at 2:02 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born August 16, 1944 in Streator, to Isadore and Minnie (Cox) Volk, he married Christina Oliver on July 10, 1971 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Brandi Volk of North Pekin; three brothers, Robert (Jan) Volk of Greenview, Ronald (Cheryl) Volk of Rutland, and Richard Volk of Galesburg; and one sister, Lila (Donald) Stith of Streator.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dora Greiner.
He was a loving and devoted husband and father.
The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to his extended family, Debi, Kathy, Gary, Trent, Brandee Sue, Waylon, Carlie, and Wyatt, who assisted him during his short illness.
He attended Minonk Dana Rutland High School.
Skip was a machinist for Caterpillar, Inc. for over 43 years, last working January 18, 2008 at the Mossville Tech Center.
He was a member of the UAW Local #974 in East Peoria. He also was a member of Faith Missionary Church in Peoria.
He owned Skip’s Stereo Shop in Minonk. He was an avid music fan who loved listening to The Rolling Stones, John Mellencamp, Bob Seger, Buddy Holly and Three Dog Night.
Skip’s passion in life was his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and daughter, cooking on the grill, traveling and watching Illini basketball.
He enjoyed driving his classic 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass and SSR pace car. He took pride in the upkeep of all of his vehicles and his home. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage and working hard outside in his yard.
He was an avid pet lover and was extremely caring and devoted to his pets, Mickey, Lucky Star, and “grandcat” Tommy.
Skip was second to none as a fan of the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre. He toured Lambeau field and attended numerous Green Bay games. He enjoyed collecting Packer and Favre memorabilia. Much like quarterback Brett Favre recently announced, Skip decided to retire and go home.
His funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Faith Missionary Church, 1825 Airport Road, Peoria. Pastor Craig Hislope will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Additional visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday at the church. Cremation will be accorded following services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
