Gary Lee Umphress, 64, of Flanagan, passed away 8:55 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 23, 2018) at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Flanagan. Graveside services will be noon Tuesday at Davison Cemetery, rural Minonk. Visitation will also be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the memorial home. The Rev. Tim Barber will officiate. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the family.

Gary was born July 27, 1954, in Streator, to Eugene and Pauline (Tolan) Umphress. He married Cheryl Hertz on Sept. 19, 1992, at St. Mary's Church, Pontiac. She survives in Flanagan.

Also surviving are his children, Nicholas Umphress, Flanagan, and his daughter, Katlyn (Seth) Ford, Fort Drum, N.Y.; one brother, Steven (Brenda) Umphress, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and his sister, Rita (Ray) Schneider, Westfield, Ind.

His parents preceded him in death.

Gary was a graduate of MDR High School. He was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Mossville and Pontiac in the skilled trades area. He was retired.
