Jerome Dean Tucker, 89, Minonk, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 27, 2011) at Heritage Health in Minonk. A graveside service will be at a later date, with burial in Minonk Township Cemetery. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk, is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Health in Minonk or the Minonk Ambulance Fund.
Dean was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Clayton Township, Woodford County, son of Rowland Sr. and Grace Fanny McChesney Tucker.
Surviving are one sister, Marjorie Lois Jividen, Rio Rancho, N.M.; one brother, Rowland Jr. (Bonnie) Tucker, Minonk; and three nieces, Laura (Paul) Wilewski, Downers Grove; Anita (David) Seiler, Champaign; and Pamela (Robert) Zweibel, Rio Rancho, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dean graduated from Minonk Community High School in 1940 and attended Bradley Politechnic Institute. He later went to Holbrook, Ariz., where he drove a semitrailer truck hauling freight for Smith Haywood Trucking Co. six days a week, loading and unloading his trailer each day. While trucking, he drove a bus for 13 Sundays in a row, for the White Mountain Bus Line from Holbrook to Globe, Ariz., and back.
He later came home to farm, where he helped raise and feed hundreds of head of livestock. He retired in 1992.
Dean was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, and also was a member of the Robert Morris Masonic Lodge.
Dean enjoyed going fishing to the northern states with friends. He was a very special brother and will be greatly missed.
