Melvin L. Tucker, 88 - January 08, 2009

Melvin L. Tucker, 88, of Quincy, formerly of Minonk, died at 8:50 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 8, 2009) in Quincy. Melvin and Monica farmed for many years and raised their family in the Dana area.

His funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvert & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk, with the Rev. Harry Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Minonk Township Cemetery, Minonk. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services Monday at the memorial home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Minonk, or Good Samaritan Home in Quincy.

Melvin was born April 27, 1920, in Dana, the son of Oliver A. and Emma Geneva Martin Tucker. He married Monica A. Goff on Aug. 22, 1943, in Minonk. She died Dec. 1, 2004.

Surviving are two sons, James (Eileen) Tucker, Quincy, and Joseph Tucker, Odessa, Texas; two daughters, Martha (John) Walke, Abilene, Texas, and Mary (Bill) Shields, Independence, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers, plus four sisters and brothers who died in infancy.
