Dr. Franklin Delano Swan, 93 - June 14, 2010

Dr. Franklin Delano Swan of Oregon, Illinois and, formerly, of Minonk died Monday June 14 of kidney failure at Pinecrest Manor, Morris, Illinois.  He was 93.

Dr. Swan was born July 11, 1916 in Minonk, Illinois, the son of Frank Simon Swan and Ollie (Feazel) Swan.  He was educated in Minonk schools and graduated from Wheaton College and Loyola University Medical School.  He completed a 3-year residency at Augustana Hospital in Chicago after a tour of duty with the U.S. Armed Forces in Europe during World War II.  For a few years he practiced in Brodhead, Wisconsin before settling in Oregon, Illinois in 1957 where he had a general medical practice until his retirement a few years ago.

Dr. Swan was preceded in death by his parents (his mother living to age 101), one brother, John Eldon Swan, and one sister in infancy.  He is survived by his first cousin, James B. Swan, formerly of Minonk and now of Nashville, Tennessee. 

A memorial service was held at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon on Wednesday evening and burial was Thursday in the Minonk Cemetery.
