Phyllis J. Reiter, 86 - December 11, 2014

Phyllis J. Reiter, 86, of Minonk, died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 11, 2014) at Good Samaritan Home, Flanagan.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Minonk, with the Rev. Steve McKinley, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at Minonk Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria or OSF Hospice.

Phyllis was born Jan. 4, 1928, in Minonk, the daughter of George L. and Josephine H. Fuller Toler. She graduated from Minonk High School in 1945 and then married Melvin D. Reiter on June 15, 1946, in Minonk. He died April 22, 2011.

Surviving are four children, James M., Flanagan; David L. (Rachel), Schaumburg; Thomas G. (Connie), Minooka; and William E. (Nancy), Minonk; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mickey Toler, Downers Grove; and Pat Toler, Sun City Center, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, James, George and Thomas.

Phyllis was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Minonk for many years and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She later attended Holy Trinity in Bloomington. She was a hospice volunteer at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center.

She had been a telephone operator at Minonk Telephone, was society editor for Minonk News Dispatch, and worked at Kurrle's Department Store in Minonk. Phyllis was known for her humor and her love of all kinds of music but, most of all, for her love of family and friends.
