Ellen (Backlund) Prakel, 65 of Minonk passed away at 3:26 AM Saturday, October 7, 2017 at her residence.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, October 12, 2017 at South Haven Community Center, Minonk. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for funeral expenses.

Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ellen was born January 3, 1952 in Bloomington, a daughter of Charles M. Sr. and Betty J. Terven Backlund. She married Guy Groves and later married Allen Tyson.

She is survived by her children, Deanna Fields of Roanoke, Carrie (Austin) Luce of Rhinelander, WI and her dog, Sylvia Jewel; and seven grandchildren, Charles, Damon and Tristian Groves, Jacob Tyson, Jeremiah Celis, Jayden Darm and Caleb Luce. Also surviving are six brothers and sisters, Charles "Mike" Backlund Jr. of Heyworth, Dennis (Julie) Backlund of Bloomington, Connie (Larry) Hunt of Rapidan, VA, Brenda Hany and Teresa (Jeff Alexander) Backlund both of Lexington, and Randy (Pat) Backlund.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sharon Terven; and a son, Lance Edward Groves.

Ellen worked in nursing homes as an LPN. She enjoyed her career and helping comfort others at the toughest times in their lives. She also enjoyed bowling and playing Yahtzee.
