Nicholas Peiffer, 69 - November 14, 2009

Nicholas “Nick” Peiffer, 69, of 320 Walnut, Minonk, formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away at 6:15 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 14, 2009) at his residence.

He was born on March 4, 1940, in Cascade, Iowa, to John and Frances Koob Peiffer Jr. He married Patricia Shady on May 25, 1963, in Maquoketa, Iowa. She survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Lori (Gary) Arterberry of Bunceton, Mo., Cathy (Jay) Pieper of Maquoketa, Iowa, Jean Yarolem of Rochelle, and Nancy Peiffer of Maquoketa, Iowa; four sons, Tom Peiffer of Maquoketa, Iowa, Ed Peiffer of Rochelle, Kevin (Becky) Peiffer of Minonk, and Jeremy (Heather) Peiffer of Minonk; three brothers, Joe (Rose) Peiffer of Cascade, Iowa, Don (Agnes) Peiffer of East Troy, Wis., and  Herb Peiffer of Onslow, Iowa; one sister, Mary Irene Peiffer of Onslow, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Merle Peiffer; and one grandson, Matthew Arterberry.

Nick was a machinist, working at Caterpillar in Mount Joy, Iowa, from 1972 to 1988 and in Pontiac from 1988 to 2000 before he retired.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Minonk and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member and was a member of the Bagerland F-100 Ford Club.

His funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. Father James Chappell will officiate. Local visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk. There will be visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday  at Lahey Funeral and Cremation Service in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Maquoketa.
