Donald E. Miles, 55 - August 17, 2007

Donald E. Miles, 55, of 230 Cedar Lane, Minonk, passed away at 3:33 p.m. Friday (Aug. 17, 2007) at his residence.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk. The Rev. Daniel Gansch-Boythe will officiate. Burial will be in Minonk Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology or American Cancer Society.

Don was born April 26, 1952 in Pontiac, a son of Donald D. and Carmen L. Bachman Miles.

He married Susie Petri on Aug. 4, 1980.

Survivors include his mother, Carmen Miles, Minonk; one son, Mike (Melissa) Miles, Normal; one daughter, Lisa Miles, St. Louis; two sisters, Nancy (Tim) Manning, Minonk, and Peggy Miles, Pontiac; two brothers, Larry (Mary) Miles, Minonk and Jim (Lois) Miles, Bloomington; one grandson, Peyton Miles; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Don graduated from Minonk-Dana-Rutland High School as valdectorian of his class. He attended University of Illinois for three years, where he resided in the AGR house. He later received his bachelor's degree and a master's degree in psychology from Illinois State University.

He was employed as a Pekin Insurance agent until he moved to Tampa, Fla., where he was a professor of psychology at the University of South Florida. While at the University of South Florida, he received his Ph.D in industrial organizational psychology,

He later moved to Charleston, S.C., and was a professor of psychology at the College of Charleston.

When Don moved back to Minonk, he was employed at Alpha Insurance Services.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Minonk, the Sierra Club, and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
