Thomas Gerald "Jerry" Manning, 82, Minonk, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 13, 2011) at his residence in Minonk.

There will be a private family service; a celebration of life service will be at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the Minonk Ambulance Squad or OSF Hospice.

He was born May 6, 1928, in St. Louis, Mo., a son of William and Agnes Scannel Manning.

He married Geraldine M. Thomure on Feb. 5, 1949, in Festus, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Timothy (Nancy) Manning, Terrence (Lynn) Manning and Patrick (Kim) Manning, all of Minonk; one sister, Mary Claire Petersen, St. Louis, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Thomas G. Manning Jr.; and three brothers, William, James and Robert Manning.

Jerry had managed the Leslie Shoe Store in Minonk in his early years and later worked as a foreman for Caterpillar Inc. until his retirement.

He served as a member with the National Guard in St. Louis, Mo.

Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
