Jerome “Jerry” E. Kemp, 73, of 414 Johnson St. Minonk, IL, passed away at 8:15 A.M. January 16, 2011 in Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Minonk. Memorial services will be at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wenona, on January 29th at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Ray Barclay, Pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 A.M. Friday in the church. The Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Kemp was born in Wenona on September 12, 1937 to Horace and Iva (Gustafson) Kemp. Jerry married Janet Drummet on August 16, 1958. He farmed and owned a golf car business. Jerry served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Chruch, Rutland American Legion, was an avid golfer and member of Tall Oaks Country Club. He was a graduate of Wenona High School and attended Beloit College and Northern Illinois University.
Mr. Kemp is survived by his wife Janet of Minonk. Three daughters, Karin DeMarais of Geneva, Kristine (David) Mayes of Springfield and Jeryl (David) Schoepke of Marshall, Michigan. Six grandchildren, Samantha, Coco, and Kemp DeMarais, Rachel, Meagan and Abbie Schoepke. Three brothers, Richard (Marilyn) Kemp of Phoenix, AZ., Robert (Judy) Kemp of Poplar Grove and Donald Kemp of Galva. Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter Laura and one sister Joan Timmerman.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Iva Kemp Scholarship Fund at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wenona.
