Andrew J. Hvizdos, 77, Minonk, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Monday (Nov. 2, 2009) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Minonk, where he was a resident.

A private family service will be today. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk, is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Minonk.

He was born July 7, 1932, in Coalton, a son of Andrew and Anna Telepka Hvizdos. He married Elizabeth Costa on Aug. 4, 1956, in Nokomis. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Steve (Patty) Hvizdos, Bolingbrook; one daughter, Sylvia (Brad) Tjaden, Minonk; and six grandchildren, Jeremiah, Matthew, Nathan and Anna Hvizdos, and Taylor and Madison Tjaden.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Andrew worked in the plant security department at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria for 38 years.

A Navy veteran, he served his country during the Korean War on an aircraft carrier in the Coral Sea.

He was a life member of VFW Post 2078 in East Peoria and the Knights of Columbus in Minonk.
