Donald L. Hattan, 74 - December 14, 2011

WASHBURN — Donald L. Hattan, 74, Washburn, passed away at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 14, 2011) at Snyder Village, Metamora.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Minonk. The Rev. Ed Sinclair will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk, and one hour before the service Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Minonk Township Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded at the graveside.

Memorial contributions may be made to Washburn Fire and Ambulance Department.

He was born May 27, 1937, in Streator, a son of Virgil and Frieda Ruestman Hattan. He married Sue Kawanami on Feb. 21, 1958, in Hokkaido, Japan. She passed away April 24, 2000.

Surviving are one daughter, Debra (Daniel) Barth, and one son, Dennis (Joy) Hattan, both of Washburn; five grandchildren, Michelle (Kalaab) Pickering, Kimberly Barth, Melissa Barth, Joe Hattan and Matthew Hattan; two stepgrandchildren, Evan and Linnea Johnson; one great-grandchild, Tristan Pickering; and one sister, Diana (Arthur) Kolb, Benson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

An Army veteran, Donald served his country with the U.S. Army.

He worked as a farmer in the Washburn area all of his life. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Minonk.

Donald was a lifelong member of the Marshall County Farm Bureau and the Future Farmers of America.
