Edith A. Hartzler, 81, of 320 N. Elm St., Minonk, passed away Thursday (March 12, 2009) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.
Edith was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Minonk, where her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Craig Swenson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk. Burial will be in the Minonk Township Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 19, 1927, in rural Livingston County, a daughter of Theodore H. and Emma Grieser Fischer. She married Alan E. Hartzler on Nov. 19, 1945, in Benson. He passed away July 3, 1995.
Surviving is one daughter, Jan (Fred) Heins, Sanford, N.C.; three sons, Don (Marsha) Hartzler, Washington; J. Ted (Donna) Hartzler, Minonk; and Mike (Kathryn) Hartzler, Bloomington; one sister, Darlene Harms, Minonk; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Edith worked for many years as a supervisor of accounts payable at GTE in Bloomington. She retired in 1992. She participated in quiltmaking with her church, the Movers and Shakers exercise group in El Paso, and enjoyed spending time with friends. She was very active in her community with various clubs and projects.
