Following Ed's wishes, there will be a private family funeral and there will not be a visitation. Burial will be in Waldo Township Cemetery, rural Gridley. Calvert & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Manor Nursing Home or a charity of the donor's choice.

Ed was born Dec. 26, 1926, in rural Minonk, the son of John Roy and Martha Saltzman Hartzler.

Surviving are three sisters, Leona Janssen, Roanoke; Helen Bachman, Pelzes, S.C.; and Mary (John) Kirkton, Minonk; two brothers, Duane (Marcia) Hartzler, Minonk, and John (Joan) Hartzler, Pheonix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers, Howard, Harold, Glen, Alan, Paul, Melvin, Fred and Robert.

Ed was a member of the Waldo Mennonite Church in rural Flanagan, now called Prairieview Mennonite Church.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
