Darlene E. Harms, 85, Minonk, died at 9:41 a.m. Tuesday (June 14, 2011) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Minonk, with the Rev. Ray Barclay officiating. Burial will follow at Minonk Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church building fund or the American Cancer Society.
She was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Minonk, the daughter of Theodore H. and Emma L. Grieser Fischer. She married Heye J. Harms on March 30, 1947, in Minonk. He died March 21, 2000.
Surviving are one son, Tom (Pat) Harms, Minonk; one daughter, Kathy White, Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren, Heidi Holley, Greensboro, N.C.; Erik Schneider, Charlotte, N.C.; Jennifer DeFries, Bloomington; and Melissa Harms-Jones, Normal; two stepgrandchildren, Jessica White-Phillip and Logan White; and four great-grandchildren, Katie and Elissa Nelson and Sutton and Evan Schneider.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Edith Hartzler.
Darlene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Minonk. She helped her husband farm in the Minonk area for many years, retiring in 1984.
