Mary Lucille Goodwin, 88 - July 25, 2011

PONTIAC — Mary Lucille Goodwin, 88, a resident of Asta Care Center of Pontiac, formerly of Minonk, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday (July 25, 2011) at Asta Care Center of Pontiac.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac, with the Rev. Gretchen Stinebaugh officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials in Mary’s name may be left to Asta Care Center of Pontiac or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mary was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Minonk, a daughter of Harvey A. and Mary M. Camper Sutton.

She married James Williams Goodwin on Oct. 19, 1943, in Oakland, Calif. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1997.

She is survived by her children, Lucille Ann (David) Jenkins, Rockford; Mary Martha Lancaster, St. Charles, Mo.; Susan Jane Skorburg, Geneva; Janet Carol (John) Rinker, Pontiac; and James Williams (Natalie) Goodwin II, Tampa, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one granddaughter. 

Mrs. Goodwin graduated from Minonk High School and attended Rockford College and Illinois Wesleyan University. She was a member of Minonk Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir. She was also a member of  PEO, Minonk Women’s Club and the Tall Oaks Country Club in Toluca.

Mary loved playing the piano, music, theater, reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
