The Rev. Robert F. Gilles, 75, Minonk, formerly of Peoria, died at 11:05 a.m. Monday (Nov. 27, 2006) at his residence.

He is survived by one sister, Sister Zita Gilles, S.S.N.D., Chicago.

He was born June 13, 1931, in Peoria, son of Carl F. and Margaret E. King Gilles.

Ordained June 2, 1957, he was an assistant at St. Anne's in East Moline 1957-1966; assistant at St. Mary's in Lincoln 1966-1970; pastor Sacred Heart in Rutland and St. Joseph's in Flanagan 1970-1974; pastor St. Paul's in Odell 1974-1978; pastor St. Bernard's in Peoria 1978-1988; pastor St. Patrick's in Minonk and St. Joseph's in Flanagan 1988-2001; senior priest status and pastor emeritus in 2001.

His funeral Mass will at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Minonk, with the Most Rev. Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C., D.D., bishop of Peoria, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, 775 N. Chestnut St., Minonk. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Further visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Wright & Salmon Mortuary, Peoria, is in charge of arrangements. A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Kickapoo.
