BLOOMINGTON — Bernard R. Donaldson, 68, Bloomington, died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday (May 2, 2010) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington, with military honors by Carl S. Martin Post 635 Normal and Louis E. Davis Post 56 Bloomington American Legion Honor Guard. The Rev. Tom Lentz will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A reception will be held at Jesus House, 724 W. Washington St., Bloomington, following the service at the cemetery.

He was born June 14, 1941, in Normal, son of Homer E. and Leona Marshall Donaldson. He married Brenda Moore on June 25, 1961, in Eureka. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, James Donaldson, John Donaldson and Bonnie (Tom) Lentz, all of Bloomington, and Barbara (Rodney) Olson, Stillman Valley; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer, Ryan, Andrew, Kurtis, Katie, Kara, Kayla, Michael, Gabrielle, Daniel, Richard and Amber; 13 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Gregory, Bloomington, and Helen (Donald) Simpsen, Cazenovia, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

He served in the U.S. Air Force. Bernard retired from Original Smith Printing after 14 years.

He belonged to Jesus House, where he played his guitar and sang.

He enjoyed raising dogs and playing guitar, “pickin’ and  grinnin’.” Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me shall never die. ...” We love you dad and miss you and we will see you again. ...
