Gordon G. Danforth, 89 - April 18, 2014

BLOOMINGTON — Gordon G. Danforth, 89, of Bloomington, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Friday (April 18, 2014) at Asta Care, Bloomington.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Ric Schneider, OFM, officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the memorial home. Interment will be at Minonk Township Cemetery, Minonk.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association in Gordon's name.

Gordon was born on Oct. 21, 1924, in Minonk, a son of Carlton and Ethel Rogers Danforth. He married Velma I. Harvey on June 10, 1950, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 1995.

Surviving are two sons, James (Barb) Danforth, Bloomington, and Mark (Polly) Danforth, Springfield; and a sister, Myra Cufaude, Minonk.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma; his parents; and a brother, Bruce Danforth.

He graduated from Minonk Community High School. Gordon became a certified X-ray technician through American College of Radiology. He spent most of his working career as a machinist for Hyster Co. and later for Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria.

Gordon proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Dennis J. Buckley during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

He served as Boy Scout leader for Troop 140 in Peoria. Gordon was a member of Sentral Illinois Radio Society in Bloomington. He enjoyed building radio-controlled model airplanes and sailboats.
