WASHINGTON…Delmar D. Cunningham, 78, of Washington, passed away at 9 a.m., Monday, February 8, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.

Delmar was born on April 2, 1931 in Minonk to Noble and Louise Funk Cunningham. He married Donna Shetler in Peoria on June 27, 1964. Donna survives.

Also surviving are six sons, Dan (Janice) Cunningham of East Peoria, Jim Cunningham of Peoria Heights, Terry (Shelly) Cunningham of Washington, Richard (Jeannie) Goff and Tom Goff, both of Clinton and Steve Goff of Shippensburg, PA; two daughters, Barbara (Steele) Westphale of St. Louis and Shelly (John) Paranto of Peoria Heights; four brothers, Ken (Lucille) Cunningham, Duane (Ivanelle) Cunningham and Gene (Elaine) Cunningham, all of Minonk and Bill (Ruth) Cunningham of Lexington, IL; one sister, Marjorie Kettwich of Minonk 12 loving grandchildren and soon to be two great grandchildren. Delmar was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Cunningham.

Delmar worked for Keystone Wire & Steel for 38 years prior to his retirement in 1993. Following his retirement he then worked for Dollar Rental Car in Peoria.

A veteran of the Korean War, Delmar served in the United States Marine Corps.

Keeping active in Washington, Delmar served on the Washington City Council as an alderman for 16 years as well as coached girls and women’s softball for 18 years. He also was a life member of VFW Post 9016 in Washington as well as a member of American Legion Post 100. Delmar also belonged to the Marine Corps League, Izaak Walton League and the German American Society. One thing that Delmar was quite noted for was being a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan.

A celebration of Delmar’s life will be held at Mason-White Funeral Home on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bob Martin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will be in Minonk Township Cemetery at a later date.
