Dean Barth, 79, Minonk, died at 3:55 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 22, 2013) at OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.
He was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Bloomington, a son of Lester and Dorothy Ruestman Barth.
He married Shirley Jane Aeschliman in Roanoke on June 7, 1959. She survives.
Also surviving are his sons, David (Michelle) Barth, Minonk, and Steven (June) Barth, Florida; a daughter, Vicki Barth Wilham, Minonk; six grandchildren, Jacob and Steven Wilham; Michael (Sheri McDonald) Barth; and Elizabeth, Jordan and Charles Barth; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Glenn (Joan) Barth, Minonk, and Clyde (Glenola) Barth, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katrina McDonald.
Dean was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Minonk for many years where he was very active in many areas of the church. He was a farmer and had belonged to the Illinois Valley Association of Lamb and Wool Growers. In the past, he had served as alderman for the third ward and on the City Council for the city of Minonk.
He was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox fan and also enjoyed playing poker from time to time.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Minonk, with the Rev. Ed Sinclair officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Minonk Township Cemetery following the service.
