William F. Spencer, 69

William F. Spencer, 69, of 833 Locust St., Minonk, died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 1, 2003) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

His Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Minonk, the Rev. Stanley Deptula officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Calvert & Froelich Memorial Home Minonk Chapel, where a parish rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fieldcrest High School Athletic Program or to the American Cancer Society.

He was born April 18, 1934, in Minonk, a son of Isaac and Helen Welch Spencer. On July 11, 1959, he married Ruth Schumacher in Clinton. She survives. Also surviving are four children, Tim Spencer, Minonk; Janet (Donald) Korthauer, Naperville; Greg (Jo) Spencer, Minonk; and Karen (Keith) Hinthorn, Washington. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon (Gerry) Spencer, Minonk; and Gerald (Jean) Spencer, Edwardsville; and a sister, Sharon (Karl) Kahler, Genoa.

Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Spencer served in the Army from 1956 to 1958 and retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1996 after 17 years of service. Prior to that, he was a lieutenant at the Pontiac Correctional Center.
