Frederick M. Hartzler, 81

LACON -- Frederick M. Hartzler, 81, of 117 N. Fulton, Lacon, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 23, 2003) at the St. Joseph Home, Lacon.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lacon, with the Rev. John Verrier and Deacon Bob Murphy officiating. Recitation of the rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Lacon where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 593. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to his church, Methodist Hospice Services or any charity.

He was born Oct. 8, 1921, at Minonk, a son to Roy and Martha Saltzman Hartzler. He married Mary Kay Holler May 10, 1947, at Lacon. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, John Hartzler, St. Louis; and Bruce Hartzler, Peoria; four brothers, Ed, Duane, and Robert Hartzler, all of Minonk; and John Hartzler of Phoeniz, Ariz.; Three sisters, Helen Bachman, Atlanta, Ga.; Leona Janssen, Roanoke; and Mary Kirkton, Minonk; and one grandson, Scott Hartzler, Springfield.

He was preceded in death by five brothers.

He was employed by CILCO for 43 years, retiring as an electrical engineer on Oct. 31, 1983. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 593, Lacon. He served on the Mid-County School Board for nine years. He was active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Lacon County Club and assisted in its Junior Golf Club.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lacon.
