The Minonk City Council was given a first reading on Ordinance 2009-10 at its Monday night meeting. The ordinance declares a surplus revenue amount from TIF District #2 that must be distributed to the various tax bodies within the Minonk area. The City signed an agreement when the TIF District was formed that stipulated that the City would declare 25% of the TIF revenue for a given year as surplus and distribute that amount back to the taxing bodies. This year's amount to be distributed is $29,785.11.
In other business, the council approved the tax levy for the fiscal year beginning May 1, 2009 and ending April 30, 2010.
Mayor Bill Koos announced that the Streets & Alley Committee will be combined with the Water & Sewer Committee to form the Consolidated Public Works Committee. Alderwoman Keri Calrs will be Chairperson of the new committee.
Mayor Koos announced the resignation of alderman Dave Jenkins effectively immediately. The Mayor thanked Jenkins and Alderman John Hill for their service to the city. Hill will be leaving the council on December 20.
Councilmen Comments
Alderman Fortner thanked the volunteers who put on the annual Minonk Parade of Lights for their efforts.
City Administrator Comments
City Administrator Doug Elder reported that the Public Works Department received a certificate of commendation for their perfect complicance to EPA water standards for every month for the past 12 years. Elder said the Public Works employees take pride in their work to keep Minonk water safe and said their record is fantastic.
14 bid packs have been sent out for the Section 6 sealed bids. Elder said he expects many more requests for packets as more advertising has been placed in various news media this past week.
The
sealed bids will be opened at a city council meeting on January 18.
The city will review the bids and announce the successful bidder at a
city council meeting on February 1. The transaction will be completed by the first part of March.The I-39 Initiative Group met at City Hall last week to identify common needs and solutions to those needs. The group consists of members from several communities located along the I-39 corridor.
The 2010 census questionnaires will be sent out in March. Elder expressed the importance that everyone complete the forms as tax revenues for the City are based on its population.
There are jobs available for census taking. Elder said those interested in helping with the census taking should contact him at City Hall at 309-432-2558.
Invitations are being sent out for the annual volunteer apprecation dinner which will be held on January 8, 2010 at Pop's Sweet Shop. Those planning on attending should return their invitation replies as soon as possible so plans can be made for the dinner.

The Mayor thanked the Minonk Businessmen's Association and the 4th of July Committee for the Parade of LIghts and the fireworks.
