City Council Gets Update on Sewer Projects

Monday, December 05, 2016 - Posted 9:59:22 PM
The MInonk City Council learned that the Elm Court Sanitary Sewer Project was held up again by a blocked sewer tile.  Engineers ran a camera through the tile trying to find the blockage in the sewer tile but were stopped half-way by a collapsed tile about 240 feet west of the Mary Street manhole.  Farnsworth engineer Shawn Maurer recommended the pipe be dug up and repaired so that the televised sewer inspection can continue from that point.

Mr. Maurer also said bids for the sewer treatment plant update can be advertised starting in January so that bids can be tabulated and evaluated with an award recommendation for the Council at one of the March meetings.

City Administrator Austin Edmondson said the EVA for this year is estimated to be $24,581,060 which is a 0.3% increase from last year.  This will result in a levy increase of $479,495 which is an increase of 1.6% for next year.

In public comments it was suggested the City provide more handicap parking spaces on Chestnut Street stating that Minonk has a greater percentage of elderly shoppers than larger communities.

Alderman John Marcoline thanked Bob Hakes, Jack Jochums and Ronald Marshall for their help in lighting the Minonk Christmas tree.

Mayor Bill Koos thanked the Minonk Business Association for its help in setting up the Minonk Christmas tree and thanked those who helped in the annual Parade of Lights.
