Parks & Rec Needs Volunteers

Alderman Nick Fiorini announced at the Minonk City Council meeting that Roger Gaspardo, chairman of the Parks & Rec program, is resigning. Fiorini said Gaspardo's resignation leaves only 4 members on the Parks & Rec committee, down from a high of 8 a year ago. Fiorini said anyone interested in joining the Parks & Rec board should contact him or Roger Gaspardo or Rich Luckey.
Mayor Bill Koos said the Parks & Rec program is one of the few programs that has grown over the years and has been very successful. The Mayor added that the Parks & Rec program consists of volunteers and is a great attribute to the community. He encourages residents to join the Parks & Rec program so the community can sustains its growth and continue to provide its valuable service.
In other business, the Council reviewed the first reading of amendments to the city budget which included an increase from $850,000 to $1,080,000 for the Storm Drainage project just completed last month. The Council postponed voting on approving a Mutual Aid Intergovernmental Agreement until the next meeting.
City Administrator Doug Elder said the railing on Sixth Street next to Pop's Sweet Shop will be installed tomorrow (Tuesday).

Alderman Justin Faulk wants to set another closed session meeting with Gary Baker to resolve the condemned property issue after the meeting scheduled for tonight was cancelled.
Alderman Larry Fortner also thanked Roger Gaspardo for his service and Nick Petri for his role as chairman of the Parade of Lights.
Alderwoman Julie Redenius said the Christmas House Walk was very successful this year and thanked everyone who participated in the Walk.
Mayor's CommentsMayor Koos thanked Roger Gaspardo for his tenure as Parks & Rec chairman. The Mayor said Roger left a smooth running operation and was instrumental in expanding the services offered.
The Mayor said the Parade of Lights was again a great success and thanked Nick Petri for his chairing of the parade. He also thanked the Fieldcrest High School Marching Band and the Fieldcrest Dance Team for enduring the rain while getting their instruments and uniforms wet. He said this type of commitment speaks well for the community.
The Mayor encouraged residents to visit the Minonk Foods grocery store. He said the community is fortunate to have a new owner who is excited in expanding the store's grocery line and providing excellent service and value to the community.
