Creation's Dog Training Center at 112 Merle Lane, Suites 101-102, Normal, IL. is hosting an Open House which includes a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony hosted by the McLean County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, December 1st at 4:00 p.m. After the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, a Musical Freestyle Demonstration will be presented by Anne Norton and her Scottish Deerhound, Badger (Leigh Edgecombe at Cabot Trail). Badger recently earned his Beginner Level Musical Freestyle Title from the World Canine Freestyle Organization.
Following this demonstration, an agility demonstration will be presented by several of the dogs and their owners who attend agility classes at Creation's. Agility is one of the most popular canine sports in the United States. Dogs and their handlers run an obstacle course which includes walking across tall dog walks, running through open tunnels and chutes, jumping over many different kinds of jumps, running up and down a tall A-Frame, walking on a See-Saw, sitting and downing on table tops, and weaving through a number of poles.
Following the agility demonstration, a video will be shown which illustrates dogs playing Treibball, the latest canine craze to hit Europe. This canine sport is quickly becoming very popular in the United State. Treibball originated in Germany in 2003 as an activity that was designed to allow owners of Border Collies, Australian Sheepdogs, and other high- energy working dogs to exercise their instincts and talent for herding without the need to keep sheep or ducks, or to have access to large acreages of land. Instead, using giant inflatable exercise balls and guided by their handlers the dogs push with their noses, chests, or heads, to drive eight huge lightweight balls, one at a time as directed, into a "pen"—such as a soccer practice goal. The challenge lies in communicating to the dog which ball to push, and to push it toward the goal.
Creation's is bringing Treibball to McLean County in January. Creation's is asking that visitors not bring their own dogs to the Open House. Refreshments will be served after the video is shown.
