Minonk Water Department receives award

Monday, October 22, 2007 - Posted 5:16:08 PM
The Minonk Water Department received a certificate of commendation from the Illinois Department of Public Health. The award was in recognition of achieving the highest standard of compliance for at least ten consecutive years in accordance with the Illinois Fluoridation Act 1997-2006 by the Division of Oral Health and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Division of Water, Public Water Supplies.

Mayor Bill Koos presented the plaque to Public Works Superintendent Charlie McGuire. Mayor Koos said "It is very nice to know that our Public Works Department is being recognized, but more importantly is that our department does an outstanding job at performing the duties on a day to day basis. We sometimes do not realize their importance, but when they get a plaque like this you do begin to realize the role they play in how we live our lives every day."

Zoning Board allows variance

The city council approved an application for a two (2) feet variance to accommodate a 12 feet by 12 feet addition to an existing garage structure located on property whose address is 113 West 2ND Street. The request for the variance was approved by the Zoning Board with their recommendation that the City Council approve it.

Mayor's Comments

•  Congratulated Fieldcrest South Elementary on receiving a blue ribbon award from the U.S. Department of Education and said that it was an award that was well deserved and that Fieldcrest has done a good job at educating our community.

• Thanked Charlie McGuire and the Public Works Department for providing the community with safe water and sewer and it is a very good reward to see recognition like this so that other people also take notice.

Charlie McGuire is a very conscientious individual in all that he does or attempts to do. I know this from personal experience having had the privilege of working with Charlie for nearly 13 years. He exemplifies a commitment to do the best job possible at all times. His comment that this award is the result of team work including his associates - Cary Naas, Ron McCurdy, Jim Brown, demonstrates that he knows he is not alone in earning this award, that it takes a commitment from all to do the best job possible in supplying a safe water supply. Being a former alderman, mayor and city administrator, I was privileged to have Charlie, Cary and Ron working with me, and I am fully aware of the work and time that is required to make our water supply safe.
