The Minonk City Council decided to pursue options with a developer group from Peru, IL. Alderman Ronald "Corky" Marshall said he is interested in seeing what kind of agenda the Starved Rock Country Alliance has for communities like Minonk. The Starved Rock Country Alliance met with the council last month and gave a basic description of how the group works.
Alderman Larry Fortner thinks the possibilities of getting some development in Minonk will be greater with the Starved Rock group than with the Tr-County Development Commission. Mayor Bill Koos said he will contact the group and see if they can meet with the council at the next meeting and continue discussions with the group in hopes of getting some development into the city.
Alderman Jack Marcoline said the back door to the Filger Library will be closed on Tuesday due to concrete being poured. He said anyone who wants to check out books but cannot navigate the stairs to the front door should contact the library at 309-432-2929 and someone will meet them at the curb with books.
In other matters, Marcoline said the cost for workers compensation for 2 employees working 10 hours each week for garbage pickup would be around $2000 a year. He did this research to see if it is feasible to have the city do its own garbage pickup.
Marcoline also said the city should consider an ordinance for drones which are becoming prevalent. He said they could become a privacy and a security issue if regulations are not in place for the operation of drones.
Mayor Koos said he received thanks from the Immanuel Lutheran Church for fixing the grading issues on the alley next to the church parking lot. The Mayor said he also received thanks from the Baptist Church for the concrete work the city did in back of the church.
