Monday, July 15, 2019 - Posted 8:57:55 PM
The Minonk City Council approved a TIF grant of $32,010.66 to Cranks Uptown at their Monday night meeting. The grant is 1/3 of the total renovation cost of $96,000 to be made to the former Dollar General building in the downtown parking lot. The amount will be made in 2 payments of $16,005.33 each. Crank's Bar and Grill at the south end of Minonk will stay open and will concentrate on pizza instead of a regular restaurant menu. It will also retain the gaming machines.

The new Cranks Uptown will be developed into a high end restaurant in the old Dollar General building that was purchased by Jim Brown and leased to the owners of Cranks. The new restaurant will be surrounded with ample parking space and bring business back to the downtown area.

In other business the council approved a request from Corey Ruestman to have city water and sewer hooked up to his property that is just south of the city limits in the 300 block of east First street, site of the former Larry Hill property.

The council approved a plan to upgrade the waste water treatment plant for $213,500 in one year compared to the original 5 year plan for $200,000, and accepted an offer from Joyce Burton to give her property to the city at 717 Jefferson street, that is in a state of disrepair, so the city can go ahead with demolition..

Mayor Koos advised the council that there may be a gaming parlor coming to downtown Minonk which may request a liquor license.

City Administrator Bill Moline gave the following project update.
  • There were issues at the water treatment plant over the weekend that required repair work done.
  • City projects - cutting some dead trees down, broken fire hydrant replaced at SMF - getting ready to work on sidewalk at 1st/Chestnut once gas line moved.
  • Woodford County patrolling update - all feedback that has been received has been positive.
  • MFT work will be completed in August
