Mayor creates new committee for waste disposal

Thursday, May 24, 2007 - Posted 1:52:26 PM
Mayor Bill Koos announced the committee appointments for the new term. Koos also announced that the Waste Disposal Committee is a new committee. He reported that the City of Minonk’s garbage contact expires in this fiscal year and what has happened over the past 2 to 3 years is that the City had issues with the way the actual contract was written and how the fundamentals of the contact were executed by both the City and the garbage company.

Koos decided to put together a negotiating team for the contact because the present contact was written in 1998 and has been renewed without being opened up and reviewed. Koos said this committee will be in on negotiations of a new waste disposal contact for the City including clean up days and several other things that are involved. The committee will be meeting with the City Administrator and coming up with a game plan to meet with different garbage waste companies.

In other action, the Council approved the application to construct a 16 feet by 22 feet garage at 411 East Seventh Street (Louise Hauth) with a 3 feet side yard variance to section 17.03.11 of the Minonk Zoning Code.

City Council Comments

Alderman Corey Ruestman inquired about the 45 ordinance violations that were written and asked if any had received tickets and if the violations have been corrected.

Police Chief Nick Cavera responded that as far as he knew they have been taken care of or are in the process of being addressed.

Mayor's Comments

Reported that as far as the baseball figures, there is just one figure left to receive and that is from the excavator. We will be prepared for the first meeting in June to have a discussion on the cost figures for repairing the baseball fields.
