Ward 2 alderman Stev Mattox submitted his resignation from the Minonk
City Council at the council meeting on March 20. Mattox has accepted a promotion at
Shawnee Correctional
Center in
Vienna, Illinois
and has
to report there on
March 16, 2006.
Mattox said he was proud of everything that
the City Council has accomplished in the last three years and any small part
that he may have played in it.
He also
said that he would like to personally thank Mayor Koos, former Mayor Mark
Spencer, and all the aldermen that he
has served with for their time and energy
to make Minonk a better place to live.
Mayor Koos said that he would
like to join in and say that Steve’s greatest legacy to this Council is
the amount of personal time
that he put in to everything that he was involved in.
"Whether it
was checking on a street light to parking,
Alderman Steve Mattox put in the most personal time that I
think
I have ever witnessed since I have been up here on the City Council.
And I think that will be his legacy. All the
residents of Ward 2 can be very proud of the job that Steve Mattox preformed
for his
ward.
The City can also thank him for all the time
that he committed as well.
I do accept
his resignation and we will start a search."
City hears presentation on sewer pipe replacement
The Minonk City Council heard a presentation on a trenchless form of
sewer pipe renewal from Jon Anderson of Hoerr Construction of Peoria,
Illinois. Anderson said that this
technology has been around for 30 years.
Anderson explained that the pipe material is a double
lined felt sock with resin that when heated with steam will set up like
a PVC type pipe. The CIPP structural strength enhances the structural
strength of the host pipe and acts as a stand alone pipe.Once the CIPP
is in place in the host pipe, there is no room
for further deterioration.
Anderson said the
trenchless benefits of CIPP results in less surface disruption,
is faster and safer than traditional excavation, is less obtrusive for
city and residents, protects above ground assets and minimizes
homeowner complaints. In addition, he explained the CIPP process can be
custom manufactured and will enhance flow profile and stop leaks and
root instruction.
Anderson said that it would cost $30 a foot for an 8 inch sewer pipe
for a 1500 feet project.
City pays bill
Alderman Brian Petersen moved that the City
Council pay invoice #1321 to Tjaden Construction for $1794 which was
approved by the council. At the previous council meeting there was some
confusion on how much was owed. Recreation Board Member Bill Moline
said that he would like to make a comment on
how the Tjaden bill was paid. He said that he did not think that it
shed a very good light on Tjaden Construction. He would like to see
something said that there was some confusion about the bill. Moline
added that he would
like to see something in the paper stating that there was some
confusion and miscommunication in order to make it look a little bit
better for
the local business.
City Administrator comments
• The flooring project in City Hall will start on Wednesday March 22, 2006.
• Public Works has started the second phase of the bakery sidewalk replacement project on Oak Street.
• Public Hearing for the 2006/07 budget will be held on April 17, 2006
at 6 p.m. and notice will be published in the March 30th edition of the
Woodford County Journal.
• Spoke with IDPH who referred me to Woodford County Health Department
concerning the house at 828 Jefferson Street. They advised that there
are no county ordinances that would give the health department
jurisdictional backing to require an owner to repair the roof in their
house.
Other business
Alderman Brian Petersen was appointed as chairman of the Public Works Committee.
Larry Hill asked when the City was going to have their next meeting
with Randy Hellyer to get an update on the racetrack. Mayor Koos
said that at the January meeting they said 60 to 90 days and that is
fast approaching so we will be in contact with them as that day
approaches.
