IEPA Inspection
City Administration Doug Elder said that the IEPA inspection resulted in a few recommendations for the City. The first recommendation was to get the storm water out of the sewer system. Elder said almost every city receives this same recommendation, adding that the new Storm Water Project will address that issue. Secondly, there is a cross connection between a sewer line and a storm water line that needs to be separated. Elder said that the City's work crew can reroute this line so the lines are separated.
New Signs For New Millennia Park
The Council approved a recommendation from the Public Safety Committee to erect signs at the New Millennia Park for safety reasons. The new signs will be for a
Pedestrian Crossing and for
Children at Play. The signs were requested by the Fieldcrest High School FOCUSED group which conducted its own study on traffic safety. The recommendation by the group to erect speed limit signs at the FIeldcrest High School parking lot was not approved by the Public Safety Committee. Since the parking lot is private property, the group was advised to direct the request to the Fieldcrest administration.
Garbage Rates
The Public Safety Committee at its Feb. 21 meeting recommended an increase of the garbage-pickup fee from $12.80 per household to $13.95 per household. A proposed 4% increase was also approved for the garbage collector, Titan Environmental Service, who will receive $11.15 per household. The recommendations will have to be approved by the City Council.
In other news, the Council approved the appointment of Justin Gale to the Parks and Recreation Committee. Alderman Sean Cunningham said the
2nd Annual Spring Fling
held at City Hall on Saturday brought in $!000 which will be given to the Minonk Co-Op Preschool and wanted to thank everyone who participated in the event.
