City Opens Two Bids For Section 6

Monday, January 18, 2010 - Posted 8:12:53 PM

The bids for purchasing Section 6 through the City of Minonk were opened Monday night at the city council meeting.   Mayor Bill Koos opened the two sealed bids that were submitted.  The high bid was by H&H Farms LLC of Plano, IL for $2,826,100 or $5002 per acre for the 565 acre plot.  The other bid was by L. B. Andersen Const. of North Barrington, IL for $2,655,406.  The council will decide at the next meeting on February 1 if it decides to accept any of the bids.

Petri Brothers Honored

The Minonk City Council passed a resolution honoring the seven Petri Brothers from Minonk who all served in World War 2.  Mayor Koos gave a stirring speech on how we should be grateful for the service of not only the Petri brothers, but of all those who have served in America's military.  American Legion Commander Larry Miles then presented certificates to the three remaining Petri brothers who attended the service, Norbert of Minonk, Joe of LaSalle, IL, and Virgil of Arkansas.  Members of the family of the other four deceased brothers, Marion, John, Julian and Eugene, received certificates on their behalf.  American Legion member Dave Shirley also gave a talk and expressed his thanks to the Minonk City Council for adopting the resolution to honor the Petri brothers.  A sign proclaiming Minonk as the home of the seven Petri brothers will be erected at the north and south entrances to Minonk.  Click here to see a video of the Petri Bros. ceremony.

In other business, City Administrator Doug Elder announced that the city will make a TIF II grant of $2,095 to Toluca Tailoring Company of Minonk at 551 N. Chestnut for machines.  Valerie Lilly made the application for the grant.

Public Comments

The decorum of the evening was changed as the joyous crowd had to listen to Sherry Willis of Minonk register a complaint with the city on her sewer being backed up, a complaint that could have been registered privately with the City Administrator during working hours.

City Administrator Comments

City Administrator Doug Elder announced that the courts have approved a demolition order that will allow the city to demolish 3 residential properties that are vacant and in a state of disrepair.  The properties are located at 828 Jefferson, 736 Johnson, and 322 Chestnut.

Mayor's Comments

Mayor Koos announced that he will be appointing Julie Redenius to fill the vacancy of former alderman John Hill in Ward 2 who resigned last December.
