City to Honor Petri Brothers Service Record

Monday, January 04, 2010 - Posted 8:17:08 PM

The Minonk City Council was given a first reading of a resolution to honor the seven Petri brothers service in World War II.  The resolution was requested by local American Legion Post 142 who also requested permission to post signs on both entrances to Minonk stating the Petri brothers contribution.  City Administrator Doug Elder said it is very unusual to have a family of seven brothers all serving in the same war and they deserve our recognition.  The council will vote on the resolution at their next meeting on January 18th.  For more information on the Petri brothers, click here.

In other business, Alderman Keri Carls noticed that the recycled bin behind city hall has been quite full lately and wanted to know when the bin was emptied. City Administrator Doug Elder said that the city notifies the waste company when the bin is full and they then come to empty it.

Mayor Bill Koos announced that 23 packets for bidding on Section 6 were sent out and that the returned bids will be opened during the next city council meeting on January 18th.  The winning bid will be announced at the city council meeting on February 1.

Police Chief Nick Cavera stated that he wanted to remind local residents that cars must not be parked on city streets when there is more than 2 inches of snow so that the city crew can clean the streets more effectively.
