News Subject: City Clean Up days announced for April 26-27 - 03/17/2008 -

Did they ever think not everyone has a vehicle to haul junk to one location?  Did they ever think people go on vacation and will not be around on this weekend?  If we are on vacation this weekend do we just take our junk up to city hall?  Did they ever think about people that live on Jefferson st near the Ambulance shed with the amount of congession they are going to create.
News Subject: City Approves TIF Funding for Local Business - 04/13/2008 -

New garbage contract you say, I sure hope the contract will at least junk since we pay for it each month on our water bill.  I would like to know what the city is doing with the extra money they are charging us each month on top of what the garbage company charges the city.  A couple dumpsters cannot equal the amount that is collected.  I see all the local city's are doing road side pickup for junk, but they can afford it since they are charged about 1/2 what we are for water & sewer.

Read the article before commenting, the Parking lot they are reduing is the one between the old ambulance shed and Police.  It's not the one across the street.

Yes believe it or not there is a parking lot North of the old ambulance shed and east of the police department
Editorial Subject: Wasting our money in Iraq - 04/15/2008 -

What really sad is besides the 500 billion we already wasted, sorry spent.  That the firms that got the rebuild contracts pay the employees over there 4x what one of our soldiers get.  Also our goverment gave control over the oil production to a foriegn country.  When we invaded Iraq all the told us we were going to tap into their oil and pay for this war and rebuild.  But no schools are broke, my taxes keep going up, road a falling apart, people are out of work, and I can't aford to drive to work since they tore the train track out 20 years ago.  But W's friends are making more money then ever.
News Subject: City approves deficit budget - 05/01/2008 -

Besides running our city in the hole.  I see they messed up the garbage collection.  But they were quick to charge us the extra money for the company not to pick up garbage.

What being in the hole $300K?
News Subject: City replaces curb side recyling with central recycling bin - 05/11/2008 -

Nella; that is why we elect councilmen (It’s councilmen for either man or woman) to represent us, so we do not have to attend every meeting.  It’s just like when we elect a state congressman, we don’t attend the state meetings.  Same as federal, but when we call one of our state reps about problem they don’t tell us we have to come to the next congress session.  If you don’t like representing your ward and hear people complain (comes with the job) maybe you shouldn’t have ran for the position.

News Subject: City replaces curb side recyling with central recycling bin - 05/11/2008 -

What the hey, I went to throw my recyclables in then new dumpster and someone threw garbage in it.  Why does people have to ruin this, there is other thing people can do with their garbage.  You don't have to ruin one of the only good things offered.  Plus now I see the city workers pick up garbage also.
News Subject: City discusses City Administrator Job Selection Process - 05/26/2008 -

If I was Dave, I would tell the city to go out for bids, they will not find anything even close to the price they are offering.  Along with let the city employees run it and see how often it gets updated.

I am not saying the city employees are not capable of updaing the sight, but you have an experience computer man that does this for a living stating he spends 15-20 hours a week updating the website.  So you want to have a person that does not have computer experience or little experience maintain a web site they will be spending 30-40 hrs a week.  30-40 hrs a week is a full time job, like someone is going to want to do this on top of their current job.  And if the city pays a employee to take care if it the cost just went up.  At 15 hours a week that 780 hours a year at a cost of $2000 that is $2.56/ hour I would like to know if you want to work for 2.56/ hour?

Kind of hard to get a pool when your town is $300K in the hole, plus minonk never took care of their last pool, it's a Tee Ball dimond now

The Rumor going around is that I am Jason "Buck" Buchanan.  This is not true, if I were that wouldn't be half bad.  Jason is a very intelligent person, who does a lot for his community.

News Subject: Rutherford introduces legislation to end texting while driving - 02/09/2009 -

How are they going to enforce this law?  It a good idea, but you can't tell if someone is texting while they are driving.  You would think there is more important things to be worring about like a 4 billion hole in the budget, than a law you can't enforce
Editorial Subject: Use Internet to bring transparency to government - 02/16/2009 -

I would agree with you 100% about they need to set-up a website so the voters can see what bills they are getting ready to vote for.  But here is the issue Dave, they will not do something like this, because they want the american people in the dark on what they are going to do.  If most people know what bills they are getting ready to vote on or voted on they american public would be upset.  Just like this stimulus plan or the bank bail out if they listen to the american public neither would have passed.
Editorial Subject: Use Internet to bring transparency to government - 02/16/2009 -

Also they really could care less about the economy, GM is asking for more money they goverment now is saying no, they need to go bankrupt.  Experts are now saying if GM goes bankrupt that they will single handle destroy any good the stimulus package will do.  Right off the bat GM will reduce 10 of thousands of jobs.  There supply base will have to reduce between 500,000 and million jobs.  Then Toyota, Ford and Chrysler will lay off because the supply base will be going under since they will not be paid by GM.  The the finial staw will be GM will get rid of their pension, the problem with that the law that was passed before the airlines did it the goverment picks up the pensions.  This will end up costing tax payers 100's of billions if not Trillions.  We would be better off giving them the 21 billion and hope they can pay it back.  What's the difference giving GM 15 billion or giving Citi bank 1oo billion and they go out and buy a new jet?

News Subject: City hires legal counsel to address location of wind farm turbines - 07/27/2009 -

Why is Minonk wasting money on legal counsel, the mayor states there is a law the city has rights to 1.5 from city limits.  The wind farm is planning to put 4 1.5 miles out of the city limits.  My math was never that great, but last I knew 1.5 miles any direction is 1.5 miles so the city is out of there limits?????

News Subject: City Council approves no parking restrictions - 08/17/2009 -

I would like to see the traffic study from the no parking zones.  Or is these no parking zone illegal like most of the stop signs and speed limit in the city of minonk?
News Subject: City Council approves no parking restrictions - 08/17/2009 -

Jason B.  Legally to put up a stop sign you have to do a traffic study, showing a stop sign is need other than to slow down traffic.  Most all the stop signs that Minonk has put up in the last 10 years is to slow down traffic which are illegal.
News Subject: Newsletter from State Rep. Keith Sommer - 09/11/2009 -

News Subject: 2009 State Test Scores for Schools Released - 11/04/2009 -

I see our grade schools is money well spent, but high school test scores are a joke.  I guess they are training the students for skilled trades and other than going to college, oh I am wrong because they cut all skilled classes out of the curriculum.  I know they are not teaching the students common sense because no of the students have any of this.  So what are they teaching them at FHS.  Because what I pay for taxes going to FHS they should be getting the best Education in the state.

6% or 13% for what the city doesn't offer anything.  Has no pool for kids, rumors of a rec center for the last 10 years and only came of this was a walking park. The roads in town are normally poorly cleared.  Until this summer people on Locust street has been fighting flooding for ever.  6% for what law suits and pay raises or does this cover everything that comes in front of council to go in fron of the city lawyer and his fees
