News Subject: City Clean Up days announced for April 26-27 - 03/17/2008 -

The ambulance shed is on Jefferson...not Washington!!!

Spring Cleanup was the one thing keeping our town clean (at least for part of the year).  You will not have half the success if people have to drive it there.  Not everyone has or know people with trucks.  Will we have a decrease in garbage pickup fees now that this service is not available?  This was included with our garbage fees!

What ever happened to looking at different garbage carriers/handlers?  Most of us residents have problems with Tomlinsons, including the attitudes of their employees.  I for one am tired of them throwing my garbage cans into the road.  I bet they're the low bid and we get what we pay for...

News Subject: City Council meeting cancelled due to a lack of a quorum - 04/21/2008 -

I don't see the Mayor doing anything wrong.  There was nothing to do since there was no quorum. I think next time, the names of the council members who decided not to represent our city tonight should be listed, so we can all know this when it comes time for re-election.  This is unacceptable!  They all knew their commitments when they put themselves on the ballot.  There should be no city council meeting cancelled due to lack of quorum!  Thank you to the one member who did notify the Mayor well in advance that they would be out of town!

I'm with Emo! Tomlinson's changed requirements behind our backs, according to the note left, the city agreed to this. We are getting charged more for less service! Residents were given NO advance notice and these were left taped to our abandoned trash cans, that we've used every week for ten years. which are now apparently TOO LARGE for Tomlinson's to handle now. Who is going to pay for my new cans, which will just be tossed around by their careless employees? Better yet, I should just leave my 8 maximum bags of trash out there and Tomlinson's better pick up the pieces left from the stray dogs. I would like to thank Brian Peterson for all his help personally making sure everyone's abandoned trash was taken care of. All of your dedication will pay off!  I'll be at the next council meeting and hope everyone else is too! I urge everyone to call your council representative.  We were sorely misrepresented.

New guidelines, which states that both parties have mutually agreed upon (split into 2 comments due to 1000 char limit).Part 1 of 2: 1.  Only household waste...items heavier than 40 pounds have to be arranged for a fee
2.  All acceptable garbage must be in an appropriate  container or garbage bags no larger than 35 gallons. A LIMIT OF (4) 35 GALLON GARBAGE CANS OR 8 GARBAGE BAGS PER HOUSEHOLD PER WEEK.  No garbage can or garbage bag is to exceed 40 pounds. (here's the kicker) Any garbage can larger than 35 gallons in size will not be accepted. (I have a BIG problem with this--been using 45 gallon cans for 10 yrs)

Part 2 of 2:
3. All cardboard boxes must be broken down and stacked alongside garbage cans (no problem with that).
4. Placed at curb no later than 6 am.  Contractor shall handle all approved homeowners containers with reasonable care (um, right).
5 Complaints shall first be filtered through City Hall.
--Do you know that they never recycled the recycling?  They ended up taking it to landfills with regular garbage, but we got charged for it.  From what I hear, they've discontinued curbside recycling, but find nothing in writing.--We should have received notice before this went into effect. I could have at least pitched my unacceptable 45 gallon cans with city-wide cleanup.

I agree with alterego!
How many of us are going to the next meeting since we know (now) we're not being represented in means that's not right for our city?  Were other proposals even read? I hope they plan to have a representative from tomlinsons there!  This here is also another reason why we need a city administrator!  It would have been the city administrators job to gather the proposals and submit them for approval.
Nella...huh?  You can type in full sentences here. This is not text or instant messaging. It's spelled YOU.  People read these from outside of Minonk, including prospective residents (who are probably running far away, since Minonk has nothing to offer them along with near $4/gallon gas).  Besides, none of what you said made sense.  If every resident went to meetings, we'd have to meet somewhere other than city hall.  Do YOU go to every meeting?
News Subject: New Garbage Pick-up Day Announced - 06/01/2008 -

Yippee!  I'm glad the rumor going around is true.  Does anyone know if there are any restrictions (can sizes, weight limit, # of bags)?

News Subject: New Garbage Pick-up Day Announced - 06/01/2008 -

I'm guessing Dave will update this with specifics after tonight's city council meeting.

I ditto Jason's statement in saying Thank You!  I'd also like to thank public works for picking up the "slack".

Jaf...I'd probably get in touch with your Alderman and maybe bring up your concerns at a council meeting.

News Subject: City reveals plans for new parking restrictions - 08/03/2009 -

Changes to parking near the school has been tried several times and ended up dropped by the second week of school. With the proposed changes to parking around South, does that mean that the faculty will not be parking in the spots in front of the school? The spots in front of the school should be designated as one or two hour parking. They may as well close Johnson as there are very few parking spots left once the faculity has parked. Parents should not have to park 2+ blocks away to pick their children up from school. Another thing that should be done is to change Bright Beginnings end times to ensure that the parents parking on the north side of the building are gone before the rest of the school dismisses. It used to dismiss 20 minutes early, which really worked out.
News Subject: City Council approves no parking restrictions - 08/17/2009 -

Emo:  Have you been anywhere near the schools in the morning and afternoon?  If you've been there at all you would see that there is no need for a study.  A car could barely get through during those times, which would then mean that if an emergency arises during those times, emergency vehicles cannot get through.  I hope these areas are enforced.  Unfortunately many people do not care and will park there anyway.  A way to avoid it is to start walking.  Maybe our kids won't be so lazy if we should start showing an example.

Traffic studies are done in larger communities...not here.  There's nothing illegal with any of our stop signs.  Our public safety committee deems what's good for our community...not some study that ends up costing the taxpayer at least twice the cost the device would have cost to begin with.
News Subject: City to exercise option to purchase Section 6 - 09/08/2009 -

I personally don't have a problem with them patrolling/setting up speed traps on 251. Some people think they can go as fast as they want through there and it becomes a danger to us coming off the side streets onto 251. I honestly think the speed limit from South Chestnut to North Chestnut on 251 be lowered to 45 mph. There have been several accidents at the intersection of 1st and 251, the only way to prevent more is to slow people down! Why do people need to nit-pick the police dept? The reason for the vandalism is due to lack of parenting and lack of things for the kids to do, not the police dept. No wonder there is no growth here with the crotchety attitudes. The only way to get the money to create constructive, entertaining things for the kids to do is to promote the growth of Minonk. We need to be open to change and stop bickering over something so little as a speed trap on 251. Prospective residents/future tax payers will go elsewhere if all they see is complaints!
