John E Longman

EL PASO — John E. Longman, 55, El Paso, passed away at 1:37 p.m. Saturday (June 19, 2010) in West Des Moines, Iowa, as a result of a motorcycle accident.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, El Paso. The Rev. Dan Geise will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to the El Paso Rescue Squad or El Paso Fire Department.

John was born Sept. 29, 1954, in Bloomington, a son of Earl and Joy Rogers Longman. He married Karen Emlen on June 8, 1974, in Minonk. She survives.

Also surviving are his parents, Earl and Joy Longman, Minonk; one daughter, Lynsey (Don) Van Vickle, Lexington; one son, John Matthew (Niki) Longman, El Paso; two brothers, Ed (Lisa) Longman, Minonk, and Terry (Beth) Longman, El Paso; two sisters, Pat Fewell, Ashmore, and Suzie (John) Schertz, El Paso; one granddaughter, Layken McGuire, Lexington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

John worked as a critical care paramedic for the El Paso Rescue Squad, having served 36 years. He was supervisor for Panola Township and was previously employed by Life Line Mobile Medics.

He was deeply loved as a great husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. His granddaughter, Layken, was the apple of his eye. John had touched many lives and was always there to lend a helping hand.
